Businesses established abroad without a branch in Germany that sell empty packaging or packaged products directly to end users in Germany must appoint an authorised representative from 12 August 2026.
The sales channel does not change this: your own online shop or sales via AliExpress, TikTok Shop, Temu, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Shopify and other platforms.

No de minimis exemption: even low packaging volumes and only a few commercial shipments can trigger obligations.
Sales into other EU countries can create additional national EPR obligations. EPRORA assesses and organises these country by country.

EPRORA checks whether a LUCID registration already exists. An existing registration remains valid; switching to EPRORA does not require re-registration.
EPRORA prepares company and representative data and opens the official free producer registration. EPRORA stays open and checks again automatically when you return.

1. Prepare the EPRORA mandate
Check the obligation, generate and sign the agreement. EPRORA provides the exact company name and representative ID.
2. Check existing LUCID status
EPRORA searches for an existing registration and can adopt an existing LUCID number directly.
3. Register free only if needed
Only when no registration exists, EPRORA opens the official producer registration. Confirm the LUCID activation email within 24 hours; after activation, the producer has seven days to complete the registration.
4. Appoint EPRORA
In LUCID use the authorised-representative section, select EPRORA by company name or ID and submit the appointment.
5. Status returns to EPRORA
EPRORA rechecks after your return and updates the EPRORA Office once the appointment is visible in the official register.
Return channel LUCID → EPRORA: EPRORA stays active while LUCID is open. When you return, status is checked automatically. While appointment is pending, EPRORA can keep rechecking and adopt the status once it becomes visible in the official register. ZSVR currently does not provide a public webhook from LUCID to EPRORA, so EPRORA uses return detection plus official registry checks.
Producer registration and registration-related updates remain producer-only actions. EPRORA automates preparation, status checking, reuse of existing data, return detection and the subsequent workflow.
Your questions about packaging compliance.
Do I have to wait for the signed contract before I can use my EPRORA subscription?
No. Your subscription, customer office and LUCID onboarding continue immediately. The handwritten signature is completed afterwards and uploaded to your EPRORA Office.
Which version of the mandate contract do I sign?
The PDF contains the binding German contract first and a reading translation in your language afterwards. Only the German contract section is signed.
What happens after I upload the signed mandate?
EPRORA marks the mandate as granted, sends you a confirmation email in your language, archives the signed document and automatically updates the compliance status of connected shops and marketplaces. Where LUCID confirmation is still pending, the system shows that status until confirmation is completed.
Do I have to send the mandate status manually to Amazon, Temu, Shopify or other connected systems?
No. EPRORA publishes the current compliance state automatically through supported shop and marketplace integrations. After all required conditions including LUCID confirmation are met, supported integrations receive the COMPLIANT state automatically.
Do I need a German authorised representative?
From 12 August 2026, businesses without an establishment in Germany that sell packaged products directly to end users there must appoint one. The check assesses your role, sales model and destination countries. Special cases require individual clarification.
Does this apply when I sell through a marketplace?
Yes, using Amazon, Etsy, Temu, TikTok Shop or another channel does not by itself remove packaging obligations. Your role in the supply chain, delivery destination and sales arrangement remain relevant.
Does EPRORA handle everything in LUCID?
You personally complete your initial LUCID registration and changes to registration details. Following effective appointment, the representative handles the delegable packaging obligations. Prepared reporting data and completed official submissions remain distinct.
Are my sales data imported automatically?
Supported direct connections import available data after setup and authorisation. Other channels need platform approval, middleware or a file import. Check the available connection route for your channel.
What if product or packaging information is missing?
EPRORA highlights missing data and allocations. Supply accurate materials and weights during setup and when packaging changes. Once profiles and connections are complete, recurring manual entry is reduced.
What is available for my reporting deadline?
The reporting data set brings together packaging quantities by material and period, documentation and outstanding items. Its completeness depends on your source data and resolved tasks. Official submission follows the applicable authorised process.
Can I keep my current system operator?
In principle, yes. EPRORA is designed to work with existing service providers. The mandate process checks how your current system participation and reporting arrangements fit the required responsibilities. External charges remain separate.
Does a German subscription cover every EU country?
No. Country-specific obligations, registrations and appointments must be assessed separately. Add suitable country modules and any required local services through the same customer account.
What does the one-time CHF 29 setup fee cover?
One-time mandate setup: 29 CHF. Customer file setup, agreement preparation and guided LUCID appointment steps. For new German packaging mandates. Ongoing representation is included in the annual subscription. Not charged again on regular annual renewal. Existing agreements remain unchanged.
