Sell from Austria to Germany: packaging steps
Starting or resuming sales to Germany? Identify what already exists and which packaging steps are missing. EPRORA supports this German case; a subscription alone does not replace any other applicable product or tax requirements.
What is holding back your German sales?
From a small Etsy shop to a manufacturer with several sales channels: identify the next step, the information needed and the part EPRORA can handle.
German shipping is paused or has not started
You need to identify missing packaging steps before starting or resuming sales. Assess the supply chain and existing documents, start the relevant German packaging check and add only the steps needed for the actual case.
What to prepare
Selling entity, German customers, storage and shipping route, packaging, existing registrations and contracts.
A verifiable outcome
An organised basis for starting or resuming sales. All applicable requirements must be met; a packaging subscription is not an unrestricted permission to sell.
Small Etsy shop, handmade goods or few German shipments
Annual fees and administration must remain predictable for small orders. Match the plan to the real scope, separate service, setup and external packaging-licence fees, and reuse existing records.
What to prepare
Materials, packaging weights and estimated or actual German volumes. Small-business status or low shipment numbers do not establish a blanket EPR exemption.
A verifiable outcome
A clear cost structure without unnecessary multi-country packages or a mandatory DPP add-on. Commercial viability also depends on your margin and other costs.
Austria is in the EU: separate packaging EPR from GPSR
An Austrian manufacturer is already established in the EU. Selling to Germany alone does not automatically require an additional German GPSR representative. For imported goods, manufacturer, importer and any representative roles must be assessed separately. Product identification, safety information and required documentation still matter. A German packaging mandate does not replace product duties or separate electrical-equipment and battery registrations. Ordinary Union goods in free circulation do not become a third-country import merely by crossing from Austria to Germany. Tax advice, shipping and returns remain separate costs. EPRORA does not guarantee immediate marketplace reinstatement or complete product compliance through a packaging subscription.
EPRORA Office, commerce data, Digital Product Passports, serial numbers, QR and production
The Austria route leads into the same EPRORA platform as the main page: mandate and LUCID status, recurring packaging data, supported commerce connectors, reporting dataset and optional DPP, serial numbers, QR-code product identity and Production Connector.
Frequently asked questions
What does EPRORA cost for a small Austrian shop?
From CHF 59 per year plus CHF 29 once for a new German mandate in the appropriate entry plan: from CHF 88 in first-year service fees. External system costs, applicable taxes and chosen extras are separate. Official LUCID registration is free. CHF means Swiss francs, not euros.
Are small businesses or very few parcels exempt from every packaging duty?
No. Relief for some packaging-conformity requirements is not a blanket EPR or licensing exemption. Producer role, supply chain, packaging and destination market must be assessed.
Does an Austrian manufacturer need an additional German GPSR representative?
Not automatically just because it sells into Germany. An Austrian manufacturer is already established in the EU. For imported goods, the economic-operator roles require a separate assessment. German packaging representation and GPSR responsibility are different tasks.
